What Is the Right Age for Orthodontic Treatment?

Posted .

Traditionally, ages 10-14 are ideal to correct smile abnormalities. However, it is not always possible to receive the orthodontic treatment you need when you are younger, and now more and more adults are pursuing aligned smiles.

If you or your child has problems with your teeth, including overcrowding, misalignment, crooked teeth or excessive spaces in between the teeth, orthodontics can fix these issues and create a healthy smile. Improved oral hygiene is just one benefit of a properly aligned smile, lessening your susceptibility to gum disease and tooth decay.

Orthodontic treatment can also correct irregularities in the jaw as well. The jaw benefits when the teeth are properly aligned as the bite is allowed to function properly. The gums, as well as the jaw joints, benefit as the bite pressure is spread out evenly.

Our iSmile dental team provides the following orthodontic options for our patients in Salt Lake City, Utah:

— Fastbraces®: using an innovative, patented triangular bracket design coupled with special heat-activated wire and techniques, Fastbraces can align your teeth in an average of one year or less.

— Invisalign®: with this system, we use a series of customized, computer-generated plastic aligners to align the teeth.

— Simplicity Orthodontics: uses 2 wires for each arch throughout your treatment, instead of the traditional 4-6 wires. This means fewer wire changes and fewer office visits. This system also uses light force rectangular wires allowing the teeth to shift in an average of 12-16 months.

— Traditional Braces: this system of aligning a smile uses metal brackets, wires, and bands to gently straighten teeth. We offer both metal and discreet ceramic braces for our patients.
